Jeff Tarte

Head Judge
  Senator Jeff Tarte represents the 41st District in the North Carolina Senate. A resident of Cornelius Senator Tarte was elected to three terms as Mayor of Cornelius before being elected to the Senate in 2012. A former partner at Ernst and Young, Senator Tarte has started several small businesses. He was a co-founder and currently serves as Chairman Emeritus of Applied Revenue Analytics, an international healthcare IT consulting firm. He is a co-founder of Hydronomics a water valve company.

He and his wife, Dr. Nancy Tarte, attend Davidson United Methodist Church and have three grown children.

Congressman John Bradford
  John R. Bradford, III, has an Engineering degree from Clemson University and an Executive  MBA from the University of Memphis. John has 14-years of combined corporate experience at ExxonMobil (4 yrs) and IBM (10 yrs). In 2010, John left IBM to focus all of his attention on his own firm, Park Avenue Properties, headquartered in Cornelius, NC. Today, his company has property management operations in 10 cities and 6 states. For the last three consecutive years, Inc. magazine has ranked Park Avenue Properties as one of America's Top 5,000 fastest growing privately owned companies. In 2014 John was elected to the NC House of Representatives and he just finished his second legislative session where he served as the Freshman Majority Whip. Prior to this role John was elected as a Cornelius Town Commissioner for two consecutive terms. 

In his spare time John enjoys fishing and camping with his wife, Shea, and his four children.

Kristen Miranda
  A proud graduate of the State University of New York, College at Fredonia, Kristen studied Video Production with a minor in Spanish and graduated with honors.  Before working at WBTV, Kristen was an anchor/reporter in both Rochester, NY and Binghamton, NY.  She first stepped into a newsroom while still in high school, though, and knew this was the career for her.  At WBTV Kristen anchors Breaking News from the Alert Center weekday mornings and you can catch her every Saturday Morning, too.  She can't count how many times the popular "product testing" segment has lead to unexpected and hilarious results. Kristen also covers the consumer beat at WBTV and she has interviewed well known figures such as First Lady Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, CBS News Anchor Charlie Rose, country music superstar Dolly Parton and country singer/North Carolina native Scotty McCreery, just to name a few...

Kristen and her husband live in South Carolina with their ferocious dogs Stella and Oliver.

Barbara McKay
  Barbara McKay is one of Charlotte's most popular media personalities. Her delightful interviewing style and appealing approach in communicating with a television audience made her a media mainstay. Barbara appeared daily as co-host of the noontime show Top O'the Day on CBS affiliate WBTV for over 16 years interviewing top local, regional, and national experts on a variety of topics, as well as major stars in the entertainment industry, along with instructing thousands of viewers on different approaches to culinary excellence.  Barbara created, executive produced and hosted several additional shows locally, regionally and nationally following her daily show.

Barbara graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill. She is married to television/radio personality Mike McKay and is the mother of Elizabeth and Michael.

Civil McGowan
  Civil McGowan is a native Charlottean, and graduate of Myers Park High School , St Mary's Junior College and received a BA from UNC Chapel Hill. Her career spanning over 20 years included real estate sales, property management and investing. She has served on many local boards and volunteer positions including the Nature Museum, Christ Church Kindergarten, Catawba Land Conservancy, the Humane League of Charlotte and more. She is currently a transformational coach at the Academy of Self Knowledge.

She currently works for Mercy for Animals and The Humane League, helping to raise awareness of the horrors in factory farming, promoting change one step at a time. She is the very proud mother of two sons, Graeme and Bill...and three dogs, Scamper, Maggie and Topher.


Dr Nancy Tarte
  Nancy Tarte Lives in Cornelius, and is a Pediatrician with The Davidson Clinic.  She volunteers at the Free Clinic at the Ada Jenkins Center and with Davidson United Methodist Church.

She is mother to 3 grown children and a 4 year old Jack Russell terrier, Annie.

Patrice Reynolds
  Patrice Reynolds is the executive director of Friends of the Animals, a NC non-profit organization that plans to build a state-of-the-art pet adoption and education center to serve the Lake Norman region.  She has been working in the non-profit sector for more than twenty five years.  Her career has spanned working with the world's largest non-governmental organization to directing a small, grassroots children's museum.

She has served on the Board of Directors for the Rotary Club of Mooresville-Lake Norman, the Rotary Club of Statesville, and Rotary's Great Chili Cook-Off steering committee, as well as the Board of the Carolina BalloonFest.  She is currently a member of the NC Animal Federation and a Rotarian with the Mooresville Lake Norman Rotary Club.  Dogs, cats and other critters have always been a part of her family.  She believes in caring for all life and ensuring quality of life for people and animals alike.

Sammy Jo Francis Emcee
  Sammi Jo Francis is a Charlotte-raised sports reporter with an extreme love of animals, specifically dogs and Panthers. You may know her from her prior roles on WBTV as a traffic reporter and sports reporter, or more recently from her player features with the Carolina Panthers. She fills her free time spoiling her three 4-legged furry children and emceeing charity events that are close to her heart.

Gina LaRosa

  Gina has been supporting and helping others most of her life.  It's not only her passion, it is her gift.  After honing that gift raising 3 amazing children, she went on to form long term trusted relationships with clients, associates and developed highly productive teams as a Processing Manager in the mortgage industry for 13 years.

Now, Gina is helping South Charlotte Lifestyle Publications expand circulation and form beneficial partnerships in the Greater Charlotte area.  In her spare time, she volunteers and helps important organizations like the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Cover Dog, a local nonprofit for animal welfare.  and is looking forward to soon helping with  The Sandbox, a non-profit, which locks arms with the community and walks with families whose child has cancer or life altering illnesses,

Gina is very excited to join the Cover Dog team. She has a rescue dog named Bella, who is a lab mix and her daughter Kristin has also rescued two shelter dogs.

  Cooper is a Pom on a mission; giving back to those who saved his life. Rescued from animal hoarders, who bargained him in exchange for food and money, Cooper now hosts and participates in a number of charities: raising funds, collecting goods and bringing greater awareness for Animal Rescue.
